Quick question - sizing

Hi all.

Quick question if I may. I have found a Peugeot Record Du Mode vintage race bike in a 57cm frame ( centre to centre). I am going to have a look at it, but it's good few miles away so before I do would welcome some advice on fitting.

I am 5 10 with a 30 inch inside leg. Would that be thrown right size for me ?

Cheers in advance

Re:

Too big I'd say. That sounds like you've got short legs for your size
I'm 5'10 with a 32 I/leg and I'm a 54 cm size

Re:

Older frame geometry is so different. I ride 54 modern bikes but I need something bigger in an 80s/90s frame. Remember you won't have a sloping TT and old seat posts are 180/200mm typically. Definitely worth a look I'd say

makes no difference. Frames are (almost always) sized on virtual seat tube. Never personally come across one that isn't. But have heard rumour that there are.

All that sloping top tube gives you is extra stand over.

I agree with pigman. The stand over height on a 57cm frame will be more than 30", slip forward off the saddle and it could end badly!!

Re:

My experience is that: in say the 80s, the frame itself made up more of the overall bike dimensions. The equivalent of "medium" was 22 1/2 " (57cm). These days medium is usually a 54cm. These days we ride smaller frames and effectively size them with seatpost, stems and longer crank length.

Seat posts have increased from 180mm to 350mm to accommodate that trend. Average crank lengthen has also increased to 172.5mm from 170 back then.

I think it's definitely worth the OP throwing a leg over to see

Defo worth looking at, I'm the same height with possibly a touch longer leg, my modern roadie is a 56cm and older bikes I go for 23.5" (60ish cm) I have a Raleigh Touriste that measures about 54 and it feels really cramped

I'm a similar height and leg and I ride a 56/57 c-2-c or 22.5/23" c-2-t classic frame. When I was a lad I rode a 23.5" - and did most of my best performances on it.
