Hi all, I am new to this site but I have a mid 80s Phillipson Special Build 19" ladies step through cruiser for sale and would prefer she went to someone who values her for her beauty and heritage. She was nicknamed Bessie after a memorable ride through a forest and a golf course.
Made by Phillipson in Guildford, Leeds. This shop was bought several years ago and now has a different name. Everything is original except the wheels (I still have one of the original steel wheels but the other was damaged) and tyres and some additions. I have added a stand, pannier rack, handlebar tape (padded) and bottle cage as I was using it as a commuter bike but these can be removed. I think the seat is original but it is broken (the plastic? inside it).
-Steel frame with decorative lugged joints.
-The derailleur is Cachs Huret with serial number 5085. Looking this up on the net it is from about 1985.
-Weinmann calliper brakes. The brake cables have been replaced a bit less than 2 years ago.
-The brakes have extension levers on the drop handlebar.
-The handlebar has a stamp saying "SAKAE CUSTOM ENGLAND".
-Original paint with some scratches and original stickers.
-The steel wheel is a 700mm, Maillard wheel with 36 spokes with good tension and possibly original tape.
-The bike will come with the steel wheel but I have use for the double skin alloys and Schwalbe Marathon Plus 700 25C tyres so if you would like those it will cost extra. The rear cassette is included with the bike as it is original.
-10 gears - two in front and five on the back - with frame mounted gear levers.
-I have been told by an experienced bike mechanic that the forks are Raleigh but they are original to the bike.
I have recently bought a new commuter bike. I still like this bike but the true reason for sale is that, though it is small at 19", it is still too large for me and I don't have the storage space.
Price: £180
