Retro Newbie
I picked this up last month for £60 from ebay.

The columbus Thron frame attracted me to it, and I needed to replace my late 80s MTB commuter. Various things had been replaced by older parts, the original brifters had been replaced with down tube shifters and none of the drive train or wheels were original. As it was going to be used in a city I replaced the shifters and weinmann levers with RSX 7 speed brifters that came from MarkGee on here. The RH one was a bit sticky, and a spray with degreaser didn't improve it, so I took it apart and cleaned thoroughly, swore several times trying to get it back together but it's now smooth and works well. The brown tape was actually insulation tape which was a nightmare to get off. With a Dura Ace cable and downtube cable stop set from ebay, a fluted setapost of the right diameter (had a 26.4mm one in which moved about!) and some Maxxis tyres off an old bike it's ready for service.

I still need to treat the rust spots so they don't get worse, but that's a job for the Christmas hols.

As it stands it has RSX brifters, SIS 600 rear derailleur, tricolor 600 front derailleur, 105 crankset, rear wheel is a campag hub laced to a Ambrosia Gentleman rim, Miche front wheel, generic dual pivot callipers, very rusty pedals and a saddle off my BTWIN MTB!
