Re:
Here's my journey:
Despite being active, I've always struggled with my weight. When my 36" waist trousers started to get tight, I was determined not to give up and just go out and buy bigger trousers.
Start 14/01/2019 - weight: 14s 13lb
This morning: 10s 12lb – Pretty much the lightest I've been since I was a teenager; I'm now 51.
My waist measured just above the naval, at it's fattest point, has gone from 40 inches to 32. A pair of 32 inch waist trousers are now quite roomy, when I started my 36 inch waist trousers were getting uncomfortably snug.
I've basically been following a LCHF - Low Carb High Fat diet together with intermittent fasting.
I don't eat grains, rice, pasta, wheat, potatoes, starchy vegetables, like carrots, sweet corn, beans, peas, etc. or fruit and obviously no added sugar in any form - they all end up as blood sugar and spike your insulin which leads to weight gain.
I eat a plenty of meat, fish, nuts, eggs and high fat dairy, cream, butter and cheese, I also eat lots of leafy, low carb vegetables, like spinach, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, etc.
You can eat plenty of fat, but they must be high quality, natural fats, like olive oil, butter, animal fats, fish oil, not processed fats, like vegetable oil, fake butter, low fat spreads and the like.
To avoid added sugar essentially means no processed food; I pretty much ignore 90% of the contents of any supermarket. Luckily for me, I never had a sweet tooth and don't struggle with the lack of sweets, chocolate, cakes and stuff.
I don't count calories and when I eat, I eat until I'm satisfied. I have "cheat" days if I go out for a drink or a meal; beer is essentially liquid bread and packed with carbohydrate. I don't like wine at all and I'm not a massive fan of spirits, which would be a better option from a carbs point of view.
I’ve always been fairly active, but I was still gaining weight. I’ve tried the standard “eat less move more” diet and it just doesn’t work. I can keep it up for a while through sheer willpower, maybe a month or two, and I might lose some weight, but eventually the constant gnawing hunger and the reduced energy levels, which result in less activity, will get to me and I can’t keep it up so I’ll start eating more again and regain the weight, sometimes more than I lost.
I’ve been following this diet for 6 months now, and I think I could quite happily keep it up forever. I feel very good on it, 10 years younger than I did 10 years ago. My energy levels are good, I can work as hard as ever at the gym and I’ve been increasing the mileage on my weekend rides; 64 miles last Sunday.

I found this site helpful as a guide as to what to eat and what to avoid:

This lead me to look into it further into LCHF and ketosis and here are some people that discuss the issue of sugar, carbs and LCHF diet. Most of these are actually doctors and scientists and not celebrites or fitness "gurus" with six-packs that have never been overweight in their lives:
