Peachy Pace RC529…FINISHED Pg22

Mmmm.... I've been thinking....

Every last little bit removed last night ready for a complete strip down to bare metal…
At 2610g it’s certainly no weight weenie 😬 68F7B217-A953-40F2-98C0-A487D58413BA.jpeg

That's pretty light for a 29"?
I’ve got no idea.. this is the first one I’ve ever touched. It’s certainly a big frame.

Yeah if they didn't reinforce the frames they'd ride like crap/wouldn't conform to cen tests etc.
I'm assuming 853 tubes are DT, ST & TT? As far as I know, you can't manipulate 853 enough to shape the tubing, or if you could, it'd make it horrendously expensive.

What you thinking for the build? Fork travel/offset? Could go Rockshox and do another set of retro theme decals...
If you're going with the retro frame decals and chrome-ing the frame, then maybe some Maguras in classic flouro yellow? Lace up some purple pro4's with silver spokes and suitable rims.... Hmmm yes.

This is my inspiration (obviously) 😁 C77AB3D8-4BB3-4D91-89A9-52FB104C2A71.jpeg

It's a bit, well, you know....... yellow (he says with a yellow 853 Dawes in the stable)

The pale blue used on some of the Kona Hei Hei / King Kahuna decals would work nicely.

Or if yellow really is the new blue, then match the shade to the yellow on the 853 decal maybe.

Regarding weight of the frame, my Yates expedition touring frame made from non-weenie 525 weighs 5.35kg and that is a big frame also, so yeah, the Pace is no lightweight. However, I think these "modern" mountain bikes are designed to be more like steam rollers than butterflies and as such, do not get deflected from their chosen path so easily.

Looking forward to seeing it built up with full carbon (including wheels) to lessen the steam roller effect :)

Dont build them like they used to, though should be able to handle a lot of abuse :)

Have you decided on a colour/finish yet?
