I'm running mine as a 2x9 setup. D-A 7700 shifters and FD, with an M953 RD and modern (cheap!) 11-34 9-speed cassette.

Same setup as my Funk. they're really easy to fit and have a lovely action. Found another pair of ultegra shifters in the shed for another set. My LBS is selling a pair in the end of a set of drops as well.
