Overbury's Pioneer

Heavy

Retro Guru
I've picked up what i believe is an Overbury's Pioneer.

I've got limited knowledge about it. I'd have dated it about 1988, but the crank arms date to April / May 89 (FD dates to 8:cool: so i guess it's an 89. As you can see, it's got a Suntour roller-cam on the rear.

It's been rattle-canned at some point with a poor attempt at a splatter job. The original paint seems to be one colour, bright yellow, possibly fluro (difficult to tell against the green)

Spec as it stands is: FD, shifters & levers Deore. Cantis, chainset, RD & SP Deore XT. Hubs Deore LX, rims Mavic M261 CD

The way forward seems pretty clear - paint & decals and replace inappropriate parts - seat, pedals, stem (specialized) grips & tyres.

Edit: one question - I can't see any hint of a serial number on the bottom bracket shell. What's the norm with these?

Any thoughts or info much appreciated.

Re:

Deffo a Pioneer. Well worth stripping, getting the paint redone and building up with the correct components.

Given they are bespoke, you can paint it any colour you want, no catalogue to adhere too

Re:

Thanks Nick,

Do you know anything about serial numbers on these, or what stem might be appropriate?

Re:

Nice find :)

should be a number on the BB shell somewhere, maybe the second coat of paint is so thick its glossed over it? If its getting new paint put some sandpaper to it to see it it reveals it, just checked mine ..... paint is so thick I cant find the serial either

Its sometimes under the cable guide or between the stays on the BB.

Cheers RBG - I didn't see your content and have just PMd you

I'm pretty sure there's no SN on the BB shell - 2nd coat of pain is really thin and there isn't even a hint of any numbers. I'm currently taking it down to metal to be sure.

Roller cam is a nice touch.

Edit : Bugger wrong spec sheet........

Found it.

Re:

On mine the frame number is on the bottom bracket on the left hand side towards the front near the downtube mine is 9038, hope this helps.

Re:

I've gone down to metal on the BB and there's nothing. I've looked elsewhere without success too. I'll have a look when it's all bare metal, but i have a feeling there isn't one. I read somewhere that Overbury's acknowledged that some went through without s/n.
