Orange P7

Retro Newbie
Hi - looking for advice, really, although ultimately to sell. I bought this Orange P7 a few years ago, but have hardly used it. Just been out once or twice in Grizedale Forest (Cumbria) where I have to say, it was fantastic; made really steep climbs easy, even for a non-cyclist like me. Anyway, on the basis that I don’t use it, I think I may as well sell it and a friend has suggested this forum for help. I know nothing about bikes, so hope the photos show what is necessary. It’s a 17” frame with 26” wheels. The frame has got a few rust spots on it, but I’m worried about doing more damage if I rub them off the wrong way! Any advice about what I should ask for it would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Nice bike! It has plenty of parts that sell really well so would probably raise a decent amount if you split it and sold the parts. Otherwise I imagine it would sell at £250 for the complete bike, maybe a bit more if you offer postage.

I reckon @brocklanders023 is on the money with £250 as a full bike. Don't see many oranges with Marzocchis either.

There are some decent parts on there - the maguras, USE post (though faded), wheels (crossmax?) and some newer XT kit that looks quite fresh.

Would possibly sell more in parts (as tends to be the way) but then if you're just looking to move it on, stick it on here for £250 and have done with it. So much easier than ebay, and someone else can do the work of selling the individual bits.

Agree with the above posts. I have a similar P7, lovely to ride. Rubbing with soapy water and aluminium foil will remove most of the rust spots. Then either a wipe with WD40 or give it some car wax.

Ah, top tip! Thank you.

I'd say that your P7 is better than 90% of those out there for rust, very tidy indeed. The spots will be tiny after a rub over.

I reckon it's a 1995 or 96. You should be able to decode it from the frame number.
1995 officially in the catalogue was without the canti boss on the rear, although some early ones that year still had it, even with a 95 date code.
Checking headset diameter is a good idea too, I cannot recall when it went from 1" to 1 1/8", maybe 1997.

Have a look in the catalogue section: https://www.retrobike.co.uk/gallery2/v/Manufacturer+Archive/Orange+Archive/Orange+Catalogues/
Note that not all the info Orange gave out is right, for example on seatpost sizes.
