Orange Clockwork resto

That's it brock, that's the one! That's exactly how I remember it, but obviously with wheels, handlebars, seat, etc. Many many thanks for that bud. I think I'll restore my Clockwork to how it should be, and then get hold of another to restore to the paint and decals in that link.

Cheers,
fred

Re:

That nos clockwork in Brocklanders last picture is the one I bought, along with the yellow white fade nos they had too. The yellow is finished and fairly correct period, the orange one is a seatpost away....my sister in law is bringing a syncros over from the states in a fortnight which I bought but the guy wouldnt post to the uk.
Its not quite as period but Ive gone for all the bits I would have doubtless upgraded it with up to about 91 had I bought it in the day as I should have. Pace forks, control tech stem (the first edition control stem one), stuff like that. Its going to be a 'rider' so Im not over worrying it and Ive my mind on a final project with something else.
That pair and 4 x 80s road bikes have sucked most my time for the last few years so one more and Im done.
I will post some pictures when finished, I think I have a couple as it is now with a cheap post in which I will stick up later if I get a mo.

(Brocklanders..can you check yr PM ref that "final project")

Re:

Right, ages since I posted pictures so lets hope I remember how....

As you may be able to see I'm undecided on XT pedals with powergrips, which is what I used to ride with until about 92, or the first edition SPDs....so currently it has one of each whilst I try to decide!

I'm thinking of running a poll on the xt and powergrips / spd conundrum as its driving me mad.
I think in my head its SPds, it fits the "what I would have upgraded to" demeanour of the build

I've been in touch with Gil about getting hold of some decals like what's on Commanderrb's solid orange 1989 Clockwork. He says that the decals look wrong in places, refering to the spaced out lettering, and has the following available which are a match to original period correct designs:

And here's Commanderrb's Clockwork frame:

Note the difference in the spacing of the lettering on "Clockwork" and "Orange" on the top tube and down tube, compared to Gil's decals.

Has anyone seen any other examples of a solid orange 1989 Clockwork, and so can confirm which decals are correct?

Cheers,
fred

I lived in Colne, Lancs from '86 to '94, and one of my local bike shops (Tom Hargreaves) was a successful Orange dealership, they sold lots. I visited that shop a lot, but don't remember seeing any Clockworks with decals like CommanderB's example. Gil has a set of the earlier decals with the distinctive lower case lettering (earlier than the style you posted) on file too, I remember those very clearly from the late 80's. I think you'll see that style a lot on bikes of that era on this site. I don't think Orange would have used different decals for the few solid orange variants they produced, but I'm certainly no expert..
