For Sale Opinion on used Maddux RD3.0 wheelset

Hi, I've been offered a bike with a used Maddux RD3.0 wheelset (see pic).

I've been told the wheels are 'used, wear to the brake tracks but still life left in them'

I'm no expert and so perhaps someone more savvy could give me an opinion.

Happy riding.

I have serviced Maddux wheels before, they are just cheap wheels fitted to Cannondales as OEM. Freehub bodies dont last long and are not serviceable as with many low end wheels - you replace the unit if it starts running rough. I would avoid unless youre getting a pair of training wheels for £20 that can get you through next winter whilst saving a better pair from the elements.

I had a set on my Optimo. They survived 1 winter before the bearings died. I think 800 miles at the most unfortunately. So I'd stay clear.

+1 for both comments and I would add that they are the only wheels (fitted on a Synapse) I have routinely broken spokes on-treat as disposable.
