I have a 1960's Campag Record front mech that needs the front hinged clamp faceplate replacing it's the bit that has Campagnolo inset with embossed letters, I see on eBay that some are for sale and wanted advice from any knowledgeable person on how to remove and replace as it's not obvious to me if it can be done (or if indeed it can be done!)

cheers Griff

It's a pain. Even if the front clamp has snapped at the pivot hole it's not easy to get the pin out as access is restricted to put things mildly. I had some success by clamping the body in a vice, gripping the pin tightly with needle nose pliers and then tapping the pliers sharply with a hammer to move the pin downwards until it could be gripped below the body. My faulty memory won't recall (at the moment) if it's a solid or a roll pin. The pins are (were?) available as spare parts, item 773/2 as far as I can see.

Kevin Sayles is very knowledgeable on campag front mechs, had a guide on classiclightweights until they changed. I think he has a Facebook page? Don't do Facebook, sorry.
