Old Shimano FD-MC11 Tension Question

Hi,

I've been setting up the gears on my first build. However, the force needed when changing gear seems excessive.

Its connected to a deore lx m580 shifter (these are new to me as I was used to gripshift). This is via XTR cables.

Is it normal for it to be this tough to change gear?
