Night riding - recommend me a light

Now that the clocks have gone back, and it starts to get dark around lunchtime :roll: decent lights are on the list for use out on trails etc. The choice on offer is absolutely baffling tho, and prices can get pretty mental. I'm not looking to remortgage, so I think I quite fancy a Cateye Volt 300 (£50: http://road.cc/content/review/108798-ca ... ront-light) maybe as a helmet mount, or bar mount it and pair it with a separate helmet light.

Keen to know what others use for dark nights / night rides.

But pretty much everyone I know uses either the single Cree eBay light and seperate power pack. Or the twin and now triple lights. I like my origoanl single large lens one. But looking at getting another for my other bikes.

To mount I use a Hope Universal mount to replace the elastic band version.

Those single lens efforts look promising. 2000Lm for £12...seriously??! Do you use yours on its own or paired? If it really belts out 2000Lm I'm guessing on its own is plenty!

I'm excited by this: http://road.cc/content/review/28095-mag ... ront-light. Maybe a winning combo with the Cree perched on the head.

I use it on its.own and generally at half power on mine (there is a thread a year or so ago now about ROSE CREE eBay lights. Mines still going strong and last for what seems like ever on one charge, its on it 3rd autumn/winter now.


I doubt the claims are real, some also embellish the battery amp-hour claims to.
Possibly the lumens at a place directly in front of the leds lens at its peak on a good day....

They are certainly bright enough for me.

Faster riding may need another light setup as more of a flood, these have a flood and a wide spot (compared to the twins). But that works nicer for me on medium power.

The flaw is, if anyone behind is running a higher power than you are set on then you get a shadow cast in front of you and so becomes a blind spot.

But that happens with any light.
