Hi Guys, am a newbie in the forums but I have been mtbiking for quite sometime already, I recently acquired a great steel/chomoly mtb frame from a good friend and wanted to ask your expert opinion in trying to determine its make and model. I have included a couple of pics and descriptions here that may come in handy.
Frame Material is Butted Chromoly, most likely Tange Prestige
Serial Number at the Bottom Bracket is YC986C00648
Seat tube diameter fits a 29.2 mm seatpost
Head tube diameter fits 1 1/8" head parts
Please do not mind the frame color, I temporarily spray primed it to prevent corrosion, got the frame with chrome plating however some areas had the plating nicked and showed surface corrosion which I removed and coated first with paint.
I did as much visual research as I could starting of with some of the obvious parts my friend told me. He said it was a ritchey frame, of what model I could not ascertain. Your help would be greatly appreciated in my trying to restore the frame to original color and decals.
Interesting bits in pictures (pardon the blurry shots, only got to use my camera phone)
Ritchey cast vertical dropouts fillet brazed to the stays with a "TR" logo stamped at the derailleur hanger.
Most ritcheys' I've seen pictures of had the seat stays welded to the junction of the seat tube which also acted as the fastener for the seat post. It had a cantilever brake hanger.
The bottom bracket is pretty standard and it had the serial number stamped on the left (non-drive side). Particularly interesting note is that the down tube was ovalized at both ends.
The joints for everything seem to be TIG or electrode welding except for the dropouts and are very neat and even.
What makes me doubt however if this is a ritchey is that most of the ritcheys I saw had top cable routing for the brakes and bottom cable routing for the shifters but my frame has drive-side top tube mounted cable routing
The closest visual identification I got was that of an old scott frame (after all a lot of good bikes used ritchey dropputs) but the seat stay/seat tube junction did not match up.
I really hope you guys could help. Its not that I want this bicycle to be super accurate nor do I regret getting it. It rides fantastic and I would want to trick out the color personally however I do have some period parts that I may be able to fit for that ultimate retro-look. Many thanks in advance, I bet you guys could help!!!
Yours truly,
Doy
