What are the silver brake lines? They look solid, is there an issue when turning the bars?

What kind of wheels are those in the Oct '09 pic? I remember seeing them on someone's GT STS but haven't seen a set since. I thought they were custom but maybe not since there's another pair on that SBike. Anyone know?
