new project: restore a battered Klein Attitude

Gee, picked this is last week and ouch what a state it is in....!



It is a 1994 Klein Attitude in Coral Reef.

The previous owner rode it on the beach..... a lot.... :shock:



The frame looks structural OK but obviously needs a new paint job.
Hopefully it is worth to restore this once a beauty.
It has bubbled paint in numerous spots and huge chain suck.







Bugger! One of the cable stop ferules flew into the frame!
Luckily I could get it out through the hole in the Steerer tube (went pretty easy actually...).
Now I need a new one....



Another problem.... (of course....)
The MC2 is only 50cm wide....!
I know the bars could be extended, on the German forum I got a few tips of how to do that.



O, more problems: there is no fork!
(mymy, what did I get myself into.... this is gonna be a tricky project).
So, please mail me with your offers of rigid forks! Uniklein for Attitude preferred but Strata will do
21" of course....!

Got the SL21 out today since I prefer a Judy (well, rigid but I do not have one... )
Problem is: I do not have a Klein specific Judy right now either...

Any suggestions on the color of the repaint?
I am thinking towards Painted Desert but maybe will do Coral Reef....?

Anyone any idea where to get such a ferule?

Careless use from the previous owner! Sad becasue the Coral Reef is fairly rare at least to my knowledge especially in size L........and it's a beautuiful colour.

Needless to say....my opinion is to repaint it in the original colour.

Good luck with the restoration.

Looks like you have a judy xc MC2 steerer fitted, so could you get a cheap judy xc and repray to match while waiting for a uniklein?

Hmmm, indeed Coral Reef is pretty rare, well, for Attitudes I think, on Klein road bikes more common?
I never saw one in real life befor and on photo's the color seemed very nice.
In real the pink is, well, very pink.
The pink is a bit sun faded and under where once the chaintube protector sticker was it looks darker, towards light purple.

For sure it is gonna be a 1994 color.
Saw Painted Desert a week ago (also the first time in my life) and that color is beautiful (Barnefields Adroit).
I have already a 21" Sea&Sky so not gonna be Sea&Sky although I think that is my favorite color.

What is your thought about building it up with 1995-1996 specs?
Probably lots of Shimano M737/738/739 series and maybe some boutique in the brake department.

I am enjoying this project so far.
First got the MC2 steerer out (not to difficult job) and the fishing (and the success) for the cable stop.

Now the BB axle: gee, that sucker is stuck!
Tomorrow another try...

It is a RockShox 21SL steere/crown.
And I missed out on the Judy steerer yesterday on ebay germany :evil:

So please fellow members:
Mail me your offers of Klein rigid forks, Strata would be nice (although would land on another bike).
Judy steere will do as well (with 21cm at least please).
