Antwuan

Retro Newbie
Hello! I recently saved this MTB from the trash.
Planning to restore it to original.

Haven´t managed to find any reference photos of the model on google/catalogues.

So would very much appreciate your input on year of model and original specs for the shifters, which i suppose has been replaced(?).
Havent got a picture of the shifters yet, but managed to find a picture of the same ones on google. (see picture)

Will be posting more pictures later.

Specs:
3x7 speed. Shimano Exage.
Shimano Exage trail cantilever breaks.
Shimano exage Lx 300 front and rear derailleur.
Araya rims. 26". with Shimano Exage hubs.
Kalloy seatpost QR.
Sakae Seatpost.
Very faded Fluro yellow/green with light blue splatter paint patterns.
Located in Sweden.

Thanks! / Anton

Re:

Wow that was quick! Thank you very much! :D

Have seen similar paintjobs but only on Eldridge grade and other Marin models. Havent found a Palisades with similar paint and specs yet.
Do you think that the current shifters is the original ones or have they been swapped out?
in the latter is the case, which shifters do you think was the original ones?

Forgot to mention that im located in Sweden.

Re: Help Identifying Marin Palisades MTB

I think those shifters would have been changed - probably exage trail or 300lx

if your mechs are 300lx i would guess that

Re:

If the stem is 1.1/8". Then is a euro 1990. Almost sounds like a football match!

1989 palisades had 1' if I recall.

Quite a rare thing. Nice

Re:

Thanks! Interrsting!
The stem is 23 mm. Don’t know what that is in inches. That is if I’m measuring the at the right spot?
Or do you mean the internal diameter? In that case Ill have to check when I have time to take it apart :)

Re: Help Identifying Marin Palisades MTB

Looks like 22.2mm on the vernier to me.

1990 has a 1" headset too - I know, I've ridden it for 30 years!

Re:

Damn photobucket...

My only image of my old 1989 palisades is not retrieveable.

I've rubbed my chin and happy at 1990. Citing decal font/style.

Alot of shifters from that period didn't go the distance unless really underused.

For me , I would look for some deore thumb shifters.

Re:

Yes, sorry my bad! 22.2mm is correct!

Thank you so much for all the replys! Makes me even more psyched for this build!

Will post more pictures and serial number this weekend when i plan to take it apart!

But if i understand you guys right its most probably a 1990s model?

Would these kinds of shifter/brake levers be time correct for the build? (see picture)
