New old stock Hypnotic clothing

Old School Hero
Back in the day when I was involved with Sorted Cycles importing all sorts of lovely bicycle frameage, the business also did some other bits and pieces, and this included Hypnotic Design clothing. Now a recent house move has unearthed some new old stock from the Californian clothing manufacturer.

Below are the product descriptions from the old Sorted site, to tell you a bit about the kit. The shorts are £35 each and the jackets £40, which is almost a third of what they were going for when Sorted was running.

Hayestack FZ Jacket

From home to work, via the sandwich shop, down the bike shop at lunch time, hit the trails on the way home and then down the pub later – this is the jacket to do it all in. It’s made from Schoeller Dryskin nylon, a mass of slightly stretchy fabric with a plush inside. Here’s a jacket that breathes, transfers moisture, and likes to picks fights with wind and water.

The higher than average collar keeps the wind out but if you get too warm, the two-way, full-length zip can be tweaked to suit, which is nice. When you’re off the bike there are two zipped pockets to keep your hands warm too, while the extra long back features a pocket that will easily swallow that cheese and tomato toastie you picked up on the way to work.

All of the jackets are now sold.

Hankster Messenger Shorts

For all those riders who missed out on buying a pair of Swobo’s Velluplex knickers (we almost cried when Swobo closed its doors), say hello to the Hankster Messenger shorts (Knicker in Hypnotic speak). Here’s a technical ¾ length short that'll enable you to hit any road, trail, or supermarket in style. They're cut long enough to give your knees some protection, but short enough to avoid drivetrain disasters.

The Hanksters have a half-elastic waistband, with belt-loops and a zippered fly – oh the relief of not have to contort yourself in the bushes at the side of the trail! Once inside you'll notice right off that they feel silky sweet. Great! Did we mention the comfortable cut? Two front pockets and the rear pockets are roomy, easy to access, and secured with Velcro, so no need to look like a yoof with a chain wallet hanging out all over the place. However, they do have cargo pockets on each leg to give you that urban cool look.

What's the durability story from a construction point of view? They have a reinforced seat (with a subtle, built-in anti-microbial pad). Consoltex Soft Shell fabric throughout and bar tacking in critical areas. Tested doing just about anything and everything, they’ve proved themselves time and time again to be more faithful than your regular riding partner.

One pair of small Bus Driver Green (waist 30in).

Lefty Lucy Shorts

Why should boys have all the fun? Girls ride bikes too and now they can do it in style with the Lefty Lucy shorts from the house of Hypnotic Designs.

Just like the boys, you girls get two front pockets. There’s only one pocket at the back, but you do get a funky mobile phone-sized pocket on the back of the right leg. The back of the waist is lightly elasticated so when you’re in a roadie style crouch on your bike you won’t get the wind whistling across your bum! And your knees will appreciate the ¾ length cut of the legs.
When it comes to riding, you’ll find minimal padding to give you streamlined comfort! You can wear these on the bike and down the pub after the ride. Made from Consoltex Soft Shell fabric, they’re water repellent while at the same time breathable for day long riding comfort.

Sizes: S (10-12), M (12-14), L (14-16)

There are two pairs of small Eight Ball Black, one pair of medium Eight Ball Black, and one large Eight Ball Black.

Is it time for another bump? I think so. We'll be in autumn soon, and that's the ideal time for a pair of 3/4-length baggies. ;)
