New guy, old ride :-)

Hey everyone, I'm Justin - formerly of West Yorkshire but now living down under in sunny New Zealand. I'll get straight into why I joined - to get fitter by riding again and to save some dollars on car maintenance lol - I'm from Yorkshire after all !!

So here's my first question. I've spotted a potential ride for sale locally for about 30 GBP (50 NZD) but I'm having trouble identifying the exact model of bike and I'd like opinions about it please. Here's a pic -

It's a basic Giant, but for £30 it will get you back in the saddle and see if you want to spend more.

Just make sure the chain hasn't been stretched and worn the chain rings and cassette out as that will cost you way more than the bike's worth.

Yep, true enough it is plenty cheap. I think it's a given that I will buy it - just a quick question though on frame size. I asked the seller about that and he said its 21". I'm 6' 3" so would that frame size be appropriate for me ?

Yes a 21'' would fit you well, the best thing though is to always chuck a leg over it first if you can and see how it feels.

21 in should be fine.

The seatpost will need to be raised, sit on it, crank in line with seat tube, heel on pedal and leg is almost staight.

Distance from centre of bottom bracket along seat tube to top of saddle will be 81 cm.

Well I got it, just been for a burn up and down the street and loving it. It rides so sweet, much sweeter than crappy bikes from crappy supermarkets that I've had before ! I'll do another intro with pics in the correct forum as I believe it's a 96 ( Giant 830 RG ). It's got Dia Compe DP7 brake levers, Dia Compe Vc758 brakes, Aheadset headset and standard Shimano Acera X groupset. Pedals and crank seem standard.

Nowt wrong with that for a starter, though I would hold off on a ground up restoration until you are sure it's a keeper.
