New chains and cassettes, factory grease

What do you chaps do with brand new chains and cassettes?

I've found that the factory grease makes the chain stick to the cogs and chainset
making the chain grip and jump

would brake and clutch cleaner be ok? and then apply some chain lube?

If you must remove factory grease from a new chain my recommendation is not to soak it. Instead use a rag and some degreaser on the outside of the chain as soaking it will remove the grease from inside the rollers causing premature wear.

just do 1 long ride in torrential rain & the grease will be washed off

i ride new chains w/ original lubricant. Since 1983, i have never had the chain skip cogs because of the factory lubricant. dunno •

That's a new one on me, never had any issue leaving factory grease on, it never lasts long.

What brand chains are you using out of interest?

Shimano HG71 chain and HG50 cassette
I used brake and clutch cleaner and then put muc-off chain lube on
It was much better afterwards

Its not sticking and jumping. at worst it's stiff links. Are they new old stock? What's the manufacturer date? Grease does drop out the lighter ends over time so its possible all that's left is the yhick stuff.

Always a sticky mess out of package, end up getting more pubic hair on it than a 70s porn star. I usually just accept it and let it wear in, I don't think the pubic hairs really impact shifting too bad. Sometimes if they're really sticky I wipe it down with wonder drug 40 or if I'm feeling fume starved I use additive free cleaning petrol and then lubricate generously

I am not sure it is good advice but it got rid of the pubic hairs
