New Addition. Fisher MTB

I pick up this vintage Fisher MTB tomorrow.
The bikes marked Fisher are the very early years before being changed to Gary Fisher.

What would be the average value for this vintage MTB? No plans to sell it though. Just curious because I think I'm getting a great deal.

Hi, yes, as this is "Fisher" labeled one it has to be older.
Fisher has lost against the Austrian Ski brand Fischer and had to rename their bikes from season 1991 on to Gary Fisher, at least for Europe.


It's a nice bike, but already to some extent a mass market bike and produced in Asia, most likely not an item collectors would spend a lot of money like for an Ritchey build Kelly Fisher MountainBike.
I have to check old brochures, maybe this is even one from the time Fisher has sold its brand to Anlen. The u-brake at the chain stays is typical ~1988/9 year.

Keep it for your self, do a bit of a renovation and change saddle, tires, bar, brake lever and front brake, and have fun with it.

it looks like a Montare, roughly in that color and style from 1986-88.
BTW: the Montare was the first model introduced in 1983 which was produced than not any longer from Tom Ritchey but in Japan.

The exact age could be dated best by looking at components numbers and date codes.

Just then a few other items like seat post or also the stem aren't original any longer.

(For the sake of completness and to correct what i said above, Anlen overtaking Gary Fisher was just in 1991, till 1993 when Trek bought the brand)

Yes, after posting I did some searching. I think it is definitely a Montare.
It should say Montare on the head badge label.

I figure, for $45, I got a deal in just parts alone.

Removed bar ends, gel seat, toe cages, and the rear rack.
The rear rim has a broken spoke and is out of true badly.
Waiting for rims, front/rear tires, and grips.
Replaced the seat with a vintage Turbo saddle. Adjusted front and rear derailleurs and it shifts smoothly.

Progress so far.....Quick pics. I bought a Diamondback Sorrento for cheap to rob the tires. I haven't tried detailing yet. It rides nicely. Very comfy. Still undecided on the handlebar stem and bar ends.
Opinions on adding a front suspension or leave the stock fork. The brakes, stem, front rim, and handlebar are all not original.
I have the Manitou 4 fork in the wings that has no home.

I like the frame as well as the components. Bikes at deore xt level usually had frames w/ the best available tubing. Get rid of the riser bars and take it to mtb trails.
