Mystery aluminium e-stay in Essex

Why not ask him to chuck a magnet on it?
Not near me in Essex.
Way ahead of you, my friend. Seller just got back to me and confirmed it was aluminum, and he did use a magnet.

I had originally assumed it was aluminum based on the large diameter tubing, the fat-beaded welds, and the fact that seller said it was light.

Seller admitted he made some errors inthe listing, this being one of them (aluminum vs steel). The other one is Shipping section says shipping to UK, but description says collection only.

Well it should go cheap I would think and yes noticed the collection only but states free postage.
Good luck.

I've actually been out of the saddle for awhile now, doing more collecting than riding due to lack of time. For almost 20 years, my daily commute to work took anywhere between 2 and 4 hours round-trip (78 miles from the country into downtown, and another 78 mies from downtown back home, so that's 156 miles, 150 of which are on the freeway), but now that I've been on "COVID lockdown" I actually have some time to ride. I also plan to retire soon, and when that happens, I won't have any more excuses for not riding, so in a long-winded answer to your question, "I don't know, but some day before I die, I hope to find out."

btw, I also scored a pink Pacific e-stay from eBay last year.

Actually don't wanna discourage aswell, just meant to mention that for riding purpose, this wouldn't make sense.
Got three e-stays, '92 Cromega, '92 Hooger Booger Booster and about '91 what I believe is a Steierbike (a small Austrian company, actually I'm not convinced it is made by them, just seen a listing with exactly the same bike...). And riding-wise, I love the Cromega, Hooger Booger is a bit too heavy for my taste, and the third one is the only aluminium one.
Here we get to why I write this, the aluminium one (originally with M550 LX bits) didn't crack so far (right now with 1x9 speed deore for city riding), but it doesn't get it to enjoyable ride, same thick tubes and such.
Anyway I get it, for the reason of being quite weird, I still keep it (huh it's got a 1 1/4 threaded headset, weird paint and italian BB, apart from being aluminium e-stay), just meant to say that aluminium e-stays are not necesarilly good .))
