The number would fit with a early 70's shop contract build frame although the ones numbers we have collected so far seem to have Nervex Pro lugs for frames that aren't an obvious Holdsworth model. The things that look unusual is the very thin wrap over stay, neither full shop style or semi-wrapped and the windows in the lugs. That said I guess a contract build could be whatever you like.
Thanks for that but the retard i am what manufacturer is it do you think?

David is talking about Holdsworth. Although I have a Holdsworth shop special Claud Butler with those window lugs.

When it comes down to customer ordered specials it’s like trying to find a needle in a haystack
So my quest will never end lol so is it looking like holdsworth shop special? What about frame number checking with them is it easy?

Re: Frame identification help....I know I know

if the general consensus is a Holdsworth Shop Special build of some type then the number is consistent with early 70's 4 digit group. On present predictions from the limited numbers we have late 71 or early 72. I have attached this grouping sitting along side the ends of the Holdsworth 5D and CB 5D numbers.

This 70's group with 4 Digits is not widely recognised else where on the web, but does explain the growing group of numbers like this one. Its typically seen on frames built by outside frame builders or under contract and includes the likes of Harding and DBS plus a few others.

Yes I guess so. Might be worth checking the ID of the seat tube, should be 27.2mm if you have a stem of that size handy. That would confirm 531 butted, in which case that going to be a good frame and looks well built. Also check the weight, my newer 56cm 531 frames are just under 1.8kg bare and 600 to 700g for the forks. The older 531 57cm, Monsoon frame is ~1.9kg, A plain gauge frame would be north of 2kg.

Re: Frame identification help....I know I know

1971 doesn't tie in with the portacatena dropouts though.

Re: Frame identification help....I know I know

I have to say I am getting less convinced by those windows in the lugs. Can only think of pro SL with any sort of windows.
