Mountain mayhem 2016 aftermath thread

Re:

FWIW, my thoughts Al.

I knew it would be a hard slog, wet or dry. We both entered as solo riders, so no-one else to blame.
I rode it last year too, bone dry then, flying around. Part of my undoing that year
Panaracer Fire XC Pro 1.8 on the front of my Dyna Tech, was fine but for one off, on THAT descent. The mud tyre on the back flatted though
We had to be sensible, get off and walk where it was wise to. Some folk were riding up barely any faster.
On my alloy hardtail for what was to be my final lap, the aforementioned tyres were fine on that too. Pressures is the key my friend.
Was feeling a bit worn out by this stage, so decided on trying to rest and also socialize a bit more. Ready for the Sunday.
As it turned out, I got no sleep thanks to a generator going, noisy girls, and some tit hammering something. Resigning myself to getting up, back was really sore, I decided to pack up and fcuk off.

I may actually sleep in the car next year, got to be quieter, don't you think? Certainly more spacious!

Wasn't an easy decision though, given that there were solo female riders either side of my pencil case tent, that were still going.
Felt ( and to some extent still do ) like I'd let myself down, embarrassed and a bit lost.

I really wasn't looking forward to riding my bike, that's never happened before. Had I had someone to boost me, tell me to get my act together, sort my sh-t out, I may well have gone out on the 29er to see how I felt. But as it was, on my own, at around 5am, there was no-one to give me a kick up the proverbial, ( Where were you Andy?! ) which may have been all I needed to finish the event.

Learnt my lesson. Tail between my legs

Going back for more next year though! This time IN A TEAM!

Re:

what can i say mike i try to put the intruder out the way cause you know its a noise machine but then everyone camps around it lol, only person i know with the brains to think thats gonna be annoying is james {aka} gravy monster who moves as far away as possible and pops in when he wants then goes back to silence. mike you should know this from years of experience with the intruder thats why its called the intruder lol.

thanks andy

Re:

I thought 100m or so would be ok. Especially with my increasing deafness. And earplugs
Clearly not increasing enough !

I took two sets of earplugs, forgot to use either. Didn't really need them, only had 2 ½ hrs kip before leaving at silly o'clock Friday morning - I crashed at 10:30pm, then stayed up until silly o'clock Sunday am when the camp was dead quiet.

I think I nailed my first Mayhem in all aspects, apart from the blood sugar which has been nailing me for the past three or four months. Only 11 months to fine tune it before MM2017 :p

Likewise Mike and ditto that, some/most of the gang have now befriended me on Facetube, which I don't use much, but it's good to put real names to faces and usernames and avatars and bikes and sales and wants and so I can remember you all better next year! Hit the FB button in my sig --¥
