Devout Dirtbag
Hi Guys,
Just picked up this Motobecane Team Champion from France and after some details on the settup and looking over some historical posts there some members with good knowledge on these.

Looks like its an early Team Champion model due to the chrome lugs and details (I believe the chrome was steadily reduced from 1970 onwards) - plus the Campag/Mafac combo was dropped in favour of al Campag from `69?

Anyway, trying to figure out which parts are the real deal and which are swopouts before I strip it down, clean and preserve the original finish along with a thorough overhaul.

Have been on an American Forum as there are a couple of later TC owners on there and some interesting details coming from there. Worth nothing, the stearer tube "37 BIC" is just on top of the paint but below the old crusty grease - had to check as its easily "added"... serial number is 33 - maybe it was made up uf non matching team forks and frame then built up from parts?

Any details would be appreciated, Dan.

The saddle looks to be an Ideale 2002 which would make it about a decade younger than the bike. Is it the Titane version? Stickers underneath will say so or, if no stickers, it should weigh 310g (according to the velobase)

If you think 310g is not very light for a titanium railed saddle, you should feel the weight of the steel version!

Nice classic one. With some really old parts. But however not all together. Brake calipers (MAFAC) does not match the levers (Weinmann, which seam 60/70's). Wheels aren't a set, front wheel high flange, rear wheel low flange. Nice old Campagnolo derailleurs. Keep it in this condition and enjoy...
