Misreable and ignorant cyclist...

I think we're kind of missing the point here.

The OP isn't saying that the tarmac-bashers were being ignorant. He's saying that they were being downright obstructive. They knew he was there and they deliberately made it very difficult for him to get past.

Ignorant cyclists are one thing and I completely agree that they're not really worth getting worked up about. However, cyclists who go out of their way to make it difficult for others are a different matter.

It's not just roadies though. I've lost count of the amount of times I've been stuck behind someone on a descent who just WILL NOT move, no matter how many "on your right/left" shouts he hears. I remember one enduro I did in Builth where there was a techy descent through some woodland, and there was a queue of riders WALKING down the hill because there was some pillock at the front, determined to ride it all but at a snails pace.

But you are right, we ARE missing the point...
There are miserbale and ignorant people in all walks of life. In cars, on busses, on the pavement, sitting at a desk, on a road bike and even.... God (Jon) forbid I even dare suggest it, on a boutiques steel brazed british handmade MTB from 1993

Point is, get over it!
There are more important things in life to get pissed about.
My wife has to deal with death, EVERY DAY. She has a patient at the moment who, with a 3 week old baby, was told yesterday she has 3 months to live with innoperable Myeloma

Get some bloody perspective

Rant over, will go back to salivating over my newly powdered, decal'd, and lacquered frame

Maybe we should check Road Chat to see if there's a post there about 2 guys chillin' on their cool down coming back into town when some muppet huffs 'n puffs up behind them and starts buzzing their wheels.

Remember, there's always three sides to a story.

I should add, that my glossopharyngeal foaming was not directed at anyone specific, rather at society in general and its predisposition with the mundane and irrelevant, whilst simultaniously ignoring the bigger, wider picture

Am still drooling over my custom frame, by the way... its making me happy in a way that I never imagined

mmm ... same old roadies are tossers thread. On our local news forum there is a regular cyclists are tossers thread. On bike racing forums there are tourists are tossers threads. On road race forums there are timetrialists are tossers threads. Why cant we just get on?

I find it hard to believe that someone would deliberately block another cyclists way. I wasn't there, so am not saying it definitely didnt happen, but the Op's attitude and actions made me think that he maybe left himself open to a bit of abuse. In the same way I'm no mad petrol head, but if I see a car overtaking me when it really isnt appropriate, then I'll close up the gap ahead of him to make him look a dick. Its maybe not nice of me and the overtaker will probably tell his mates I'm an unconsiderate/ignorant driver, whilst he's a good driver, but ask yourself is he all innocent.

Perhaps we can't get on because we are divided and human nature is that anything different can be perceived as a threat.

The fact that some choose fat tyre and some choose thin tyre is a division and there are many other divisions within those divisions.

Undoubtedly the more reactionary of cyclists would only be happy if everyone did the same as what they advocate, then they would still be unhappy, because there is no possibility of excelling as everyone would be the same.

Could it be within the realms of cycling what we are witnessing with the rivalries is just human nature on two wheels and people that resort to dirty tricks to maintain a lead are not winners, but poor losers.

What would I do if confronted with ass holes, well, I would just hang back until they were out of my comfortable range and wonder if they understand their position if something bigger comes around the corner as riders who ride two abreast legal or not are a pain in the ass to other road users.

No, I just think its a fact of life that there are arseholes everywhere, be they ignorant, opinionated, arrogant, rude, egotistical, pompous, chauvinistic, misogynistic, violent, racist, homophobic..... you name it. An arsehole is just as likely to sit on a bike ( ) as it is in a car, or get on a bus

I just seek to know what makes an ass hole an ass hole because of the belief that if wrongs can be righted there will be less ass holes and that can only be a good thing, because it is also my belief that ass holes are created not born.

I just seek to avoid them, and if I do happen upon them, then let them get on with whatever they want to do without it adversely affecting my mood

Stop thinking about stuff too much dude ;)
