Mech Compatibility

Are these mechs period compatible? What are the ref No. for these items and what years of production?

Shimano stamps the part number on the back of each of those parts. If you can locate that part number, you can then go to one of these sites and look up the year of production. Hope this helps.

If you want the month and year it was made there will be a two letter stamp somewhere, do a search and then date it
many places have the list, but bottom of here is easy on

As for model number the easy way, rear mech should be on the silver parallel plate on the back, with RD-Mxxx

front mech will either be in the rear guide plate or on the inside of the band.



Though looks to be the set before the 'II' models. (think it M730 from ~ '87 to '89)

Here is the front mech and an example to find by looking at it (of course if you don't have it this info is pointless )

FD-MT60 clearly stamped , it's also the Alpine model which specifies it range or something


LJ stamp there means made October 1987


I will add 1989 was the changeover year and some of this MT-60/M730 was available which the DeoreXT-II/Deore-II but not all maybe and I disagree with this list here (other than the typo of 9 http://www.fa-technik.adfc.de/Herstelle ... pen80.html
