I don't know much about the Manitou stem reputation. Even there, even if I was building a Manitou frame, I think I'd have an ATAC instead.

Those CNC wonky stems like Kooka and Machine Tech and Critical... they just weren't made to be....stems.

I'd love some Machine Tech to hoard, but I probably wouldn't ride that either.

I took a spill on a pair of my Altek's over the weekend, almost brought a tear to my eye. :shock: Sometimes this stuff just needs to me collected.

as i eventually need replacement decals, thought i'd whip some reproductions up. did these up quite quickly as i found the exact font that was used, and the logo art work is a fairly simple affair.

both shocks require a rebuild. the original one (on the left) is leaking when i compress the shock. oil bubbles/fizzes out between the shaft and seal head. the one from the blue mantis i've been told is all leaked out as the seal head actually moves with the shaft into the shock body.

note the slight design difference between the two. there's a bolt/nut on the shock body of one, while the other has a bolt hidden in the bottom of the shock base where the bolt screws into it to mount on the swing arm.

also will require new elastomers for the Manitou 3 fork, as some of them have hardened and started to deform/deteriorate.

hi sorry to be so slow getting back to you. I have searched and search. I found the shock re gassing gauge and needle (genuine Noleen one) and some tuning shims. but no shim kit. The shat diameter is the same as old old fox vanilla vaniller RC so maybe stendec or tf have some spare. But if you want the shock gauge:

I seem to recvall they need 200PSI +/- 25 ??!!
I pad over £200 for it back in the day so £50?

I may have one more person to ask who may have a noleen seal kit.

Thanks and no worries about any slow response. This is a slow burning project at the moment anyway. along with a few others! :facepalm:

I think I'll have that took kit from you, just got to confirm with the person that's helping me out with the rebuild if he needs it. He's looking to have the larger blue Mantis from me, and will be rebuilding both shocks, and converting them to use air instead of nitrogen.

As for the Noleen seal kit, I believe he said that he can get them still, I think from Noleen directly. But if you manage source a seal kit too, let me know.

Rebuilt with new seals bushes and gas recharge for $100 doesn't seem worth trying to do it yourself.

with shipping and potential duties/customs that may be incurred, in the grand scheme of restoring this, it's enough to make me look to alternative solutions if i can. factoring i still need to rebuild or source a suspension fork, repaint as well as print reproduction decals, i think i rather spend that money elsewhere. plus i'm hoping to get the shock converted to accepting air instead of nitrogen to future proof it in case i need to get it rebuilt again.

anyway, only a very small, but significant update. managed to score a much needed XT fd-m736 34.9mm front mech. A very tidy one at that, and relatively cheap even with shipping to boot!

small update. got around to cleaning out the silicone in the bb shell and installing the new bearings with the ti axle back into the frame. didn't really have the right tools for the job but did what i could with what i had in hand. used some washers to press in the bearing into one side using a QR skewer. however didn't have anything that i could fit over the axle to push in the bearing on the other side, or a threaded rod long enough to span within the entire length of the axle. so instead used a big washer that fit over the axle and hand pushed the bearing partially into the bb shell. this got me most of the way into the bb shell. then used a cut piece of left over handlebar end to fit over the axle and gently tapped it into place.

thinking of using a CBR E-crank with some Syncros rings for this build… thought?

had the stem for a while now, but needed to order a reducer shim to properly fit the 1-1/8" to 1". i think the style looks fitting for a "Mantis".

so the whole front end is all Answer parts… silver Manitou stem, silver Hyperlite bar, black Hyperends, and a Manitou 3 fork.

so i got a set of grafton joystix now (thanks again to Mr.Toad). so it's either that or the CBR E-cranks. thoughts?

Oh, and all the swing arms/Mac struts were the same, as the frame got bigger the travel decreased.
