Magura hs33 fitment on a kilauea seatstay..

I post here as i think the brakes date around 97!

Is it possible for a 1998 kilauea rear seatstay to be too wide?? As per pic, even when i bring them more in at a daft angle, there is still a good 5mm on each side..
The mavic rim is 23mm wide, will a a wider rim counter this enough? I need the cheapest solution but if i have to move the maguras on fo v-brakes then so be it :facepalm:

You should be able to move the actual brake/piston part in some more in the carrier. Try loosening the carrier and push the brake towards the rim, there are some ridges under the plastic joint for adjustment....I hope that makes sense.

I had a similar issue on my dogs bolox back in the day.

As it is pictured, everything is loose and even with the piston cases extended as youve mentioned and tilt on the clamps, its still some way off unfortunately...

those seat stays aren't too wide - far from it, if they were the brake bridge would be on its last slots both sides

I can't see too much detail from your pic but theres definitely a dogs dinner going on with those angles.
you can swap the clamps over left to right which makes a world of difference and then reposition the silver arms allowing the clamps to be orientated parallel to the rim.

just trust me on one thing they will fit - a 1990 Trek 8900 has a backend at least 50% wider and mine fit

The mounts are asymmetric. If you swap them left to right (i.e. take them both off and reinstall them on the opposite sides of the bike) that should let you get the pistons closer to the rims. The quick release bolt needs to stay on the same side (i.e. don't move it when you swap the mounts over).

If that doesn't give you enough adjustment, offset mounts are available.

What Malt is trying to tell you is you can push the yellow bodies through the black clamps upto the rims. In the picture they look like they are in thier outer position, and you can swap the clamps around too.

The mounts look ok, they're using the innermost holes in the brake bridge. You need to adjust the conical stops so that the mounts are more vertical, and then move the cylinders inwards, they're about as far out as they can be

Yeah they are on as they came, from a completely different bike!

Very handy manual, id of never known swapping the brackets would make a difference.. but actually reading that, it says QR to the right side, which it already is.. after looking at it i know it was glaring me in the face and qr is now on left side with tiny gaps i would expect!

you can also loosen the silver "fingers" at the top of the mount with a 13mm open ended spanner.. it is held in place by 5 or 4 mm allen key bolt on the top.. letting you really move the slaves around..


Remember if you do reposition them to really check the tightness before riding. they are a conical interferance fit and if not tightened enough they will move...

this is your warning.

Triggered by the impossibility to mount my set of Magura HS33 rimbrakes in between the seatstay of a Giant Cadex CFM-2, I've found the start on the solution on page 7, paragraph 6 of the manual @one-eyed_jim so kindly provided.
The elbows must point down. However, I do not seem to get them loosened?
Any thoughts?
