Will a XTR M950 11-30T 8 speed cassette fit onto M900 freehub? Is the 11T screw on small cog different somehow that it won't fit the M900 setup?

Curious as I've seen a cheap-ish NOS M950 cassette which I'd fit to my daughter's retro build if suitable (M900 hubs).

Something tells me it won;t but I'm totally clueless on this.

12t lockring is actually slightly bigger than the 11t lockring.

I found this out last year when I fitted a 12t lockring on an 11t sprocket, and the chain was riding on the lockring.

No, the m900 hub has threads at the end of the cassette body to allow the use of old Uniglide cassettes, these will only go down to a 12t sprocket. For the 11t, Shimano removed the threads and shortened the spline so it ends 3-4mm before the edge of the freehub, the 11t sprocket interlocks with the shortened spline and wouldn't slide far enough onto the threaded portion of an m900 hub. It would overhang the edge of the hub causing the lockring to not engage correctly, possible clearance issues with the dropout and the rest of the cassette will rattle on the hub because the 11t won't slide on far enough to tighten it up.
M900 cassette will work fine on an M950 hub, just not the other way around.

Unless you fit the spacer that comes with the cassettes so it fits the older hubs.
