loose water bottle mounts

I've finally tracked down an annoying rattle to loose water bottle mounts (after suspecting front mech / bottom bracket/ cranks, etc.) The frame is an alu GT LTS 1000, so I'm guessing the mounts are swaged in rather than brazed in. I've stripped the paint of the frame so now there is probably a bit more clearance around the mounts.

My question is - can they be re-tighten or replaced? I've thought about loctite-ing them in, but the clearance between the mount and the frame is probably too large for the glue to cure properly

My local bike shop has tightened the rivnuts on a frame for me before.

The mechanic said it might not last to long and might need the old ones drilled out and new ones fitted.

I sold the frame ages ago but as far as I know the bottle cage rivnuts are still tight.

The mechanic used something that looked like a rivet gun but it threaded into my bottle cage mount.

i have replaced a rivnut, and have the tool to insert a new one, quite cheap off ebay

The method shown in Lysander's link works perfectly to tighten up a loose rivnut, I've used it to tighten hundreds at work that the machine under-torqued.

Unless it was mechanically damaged, I can't see the logic in that ? The fix should be as good as new :D

WD :D

Maybe it had been nipped up before ?

He just didn't feel it was gripping properly but it was cartainly better seeing as it wasn't spinning in the frame
