Looking for help with ID'ing an old Raleigh

SomeSayImMacgyver

Retro Newbie
Picked this up recently and I've been slowly fixing it up, I was curious what year and model it is, and if I can find out, maybe I can order some fresh decals for it.

Cheers!

Total lack of anything brazed on and the lugs/seat stays, plate for a rear brake reminds me of a Puch or a Falcon. I'll have a think of a Raleigh from the memory banks lol

The hoops on the seat post were very much in vogue in the 1960s and into the early 1970s. Raleigh made extensive use of Reynolds 531 DB tubing on their prime models so the Carbospec frame tubing puts it more into the mid range or so. Equally, theri upper range models at the time had part chromed forks. The Raleigh Record is a strong possibility but I am not an expert on Raleigh.

Looks like one of those Lazer Custom bikes that Tensor used to sell mail order in the early 80`s for £49 but with Raleigh decals. Dont want to offend you but they weren`t great .

No offense taken, I paid $30 for it lol. And perceived value aside, I really like it and it'll likely be a permanent addition to the roster :D

I'm curious though, what would make it great vs not great?

When compared to other vintage bikes I've come across, the frame seems less inclined to rust despite the excessive removal of the factory paint, and is also lighter.

I have no frame of reference for the components though, but the freewheel has a really cool sounding "double click" suggesting more points of engagement, but that's just the freewheel and could have been an upgrade.

My biggest desire would be to repaint the frame with the factory red, it has a nice metallic depth to it, then I got thinking about replacing the decals, and that's mostly what led me to this forum haha.
