when my daughter discovered that the internet was 'invented' in 1989 she was genuinely gobsmacked she just couldn't understand how things worked before that, the concept of "we looked stuff up in books" just didnt make sense to her.

I have a pile of old car magazines from the early 70's i look through now and again, always amused when in some of the classified add's at the back people would print "write to" followed by their full name and address, either that or the full address followed by "call after 6.30", no land line numbers let alone mobiles, must have taken ages to do a deal
