This happened years ago to my friends and I, we came out with the same argument about pushchairs and wheelchairs (mobility scooters were not such a big thing back then.), we got told the same thing its just different... So we all shouldered our racing bikes and carried on shopping the Manager was furious but never said another word...Some time ago i rode to the Tesco nr my work to go to the in store chemist, pushed my bike through the store (as i've done previously) and stood waiting for the pharmacist.. i was approached by 'Gary' the store manager "you can't bring your bike in here" why not? asked i, "erm... because of the tyres, they've been on the floor outside, health and safety blah blah blah" Ok so pushchairs and mobility scooters are not permitted either? (he obviously hadn't thought it through) "yes just not bikes its store policy, leave it in the foyer and the security guard will keep an eye on it for you" Yeah right.. Tell you what Gary, i need to collect a prescription then im outa here, "ok don't bring it in here again!"
A couple of days went by and i called at Tesco again (i often do) on foot this time and saw a well heeled middle aged lady with matching raincoat, bag and brolly (she looked pretty smart) pushing an immaculate Pashley around Tesco putting her items in the basket on the front... but then Gary walked past and said "good morning" to her? WTF! i just couldn't resist and i made Gary explain to her their store policy regarding 'bikes in store' and red faced he reluctantly had to force her to leave her bike in the foyer, "but..but Gary, i always bring my bike into store and it's never been a problem before"... she'd never been so offended.
I feel bad that she was caught in the crossfire but still... Fight the power!
Your argument should have been “Never mind the pushchairs and scooters that have also ‘been on the floor outside’, what about every shoppers shoes Gary…OMG, they’ve all touched the deadly outside floor too! Now…f*ck off Gary.”Some time ago i rode to the Tesco nr my work to go to the in store chemist, pushed my bike through the store (as i've done previously) and stood waiting for the pharmacist.. i was approached by 'Gary' the store manager "you can't bring your bike in here" why not? asked i, "erm... because of the tyres, they've been on the floor outside, health and safety blah blah blah" Ok so pushchairs and mobility scooters are not permitted either?
