lightweight full suspension

The 2 on my wishlist - Merlin Works 4.0 and Canondale Scalpel...(insert Homer Simpson drool noise here)

My tip:

Don’t get too fixated on the frame weight of many retro full suspension bikes as many of the light ones are a little on the flexy side. You’re better off having a slightly heavier main frame as more often they are far stiffer and thus the suspension can do its job properly rather than being counteracted by frame flex.

My personal preference is an early Turner Burner.

You already have arguably one of the best riding, strongest and most functionally-sound 4in travel designs of it's time (the basic design worked well enough for Steve Peat!) - I can't see why you'd want to change to anything else.

As others have said, don't get hung up on frame weights. A lighter frame (especially ones of that age) will tend to be more flexy and less reliable than your GT. You could shed a few grammes by changing the rear shock out for an air one, and you could easily build it into a 24lb rocket, but still have the stiffness and strength to boot.

Stick with what you've got - the grass isn't always greener on the other side! ;)
 
I'm just going to say "first-gen Heckler with an air shock" again :) I've had mine for 13 years and it's only on its second set of swingarm pivot bearings.

I dont have a build thread, but its a full stock XT / control tech / white industries / v brakes / carbon F3 forks
