Lightest, stiffest most rigid steel frame ever

Simple question; what is the Top-Gun steel frame of all time?

For me it would be the ProFRO, it's light responsive ultra stiff and super rough. And regarding looks there are no one like it

So tell us about what you consider the best and lightest steel rig

You'll laugh, but for me it was...

The Raleigh Max Cromo frames.

Nice butted 4130 Cromo all round, neat welds, carefully designed stays gave a lovely stiff and communicative ride. Add a large frame size who's geometry suited me well and a thick lustrous powder coat finish and it should have been a winner.

Alas, by the time it came along Raleighs name was well in transit round the U bend and most buyers had defected to the sexier names of the time like Muddy Pox, Saracen etc.

Shame, but there you go. Great frames. Stiff as hell where it counted.

me and my brother used to have about 8 raleigh max s as you could get them well cheap from bootsales
we used to use them for wheelie competitions everday after school
and used to jump them every opertunity
they were tough as nails

Donated FOC by a neighbour a few years back - it actually was a great ride too.......

Raleigh Max Alaska. Glen Etive.

It wisnae light, mind

from the yeti pro fro to the raleigh max in one post. only on RB....

My old kilauea was the nicest steel frame i've ever ridden, but i'm sure there are plenty better out there.

The lightest stiffest most rigid steel frame ever isn't necessarily going to make it the best steel frame ever.

Well, maybe he was agreeing with your selection of a Yeti Fro - stiff until the chainstay yoke cracks or snaps, rigid until the seat tube rusts through and light? Well two out of three isn't bad.

So other than being a complete arse as a major, what is your speciality?
