L'Eroica - Classic Italian hand made steel frameset

Digger90

Old School Hero
Classic Italian handmade steel frame set for sale.

Made in 1983/1984 therefore perfect for L’Eroica, Eroica Britannia, classic summer rides or just spinning around on.

The frame was NOS when I bought it from Brick Lane Bikes last year and according to them is made from Columbus Genius tubing, although there are no tubing decals on the frame. It is a very well made frame with outstanding craftsmanship… very high quality welds, internal cable routing for rear brake, Columbus dropouts and beautifully curvaceous seat stays which are part chromed, as are the chain stays.

The condition is virtually as new as I rode it for only a few dry weekends. The Colnago decals were added by me and can very easily be removed if not to your taste.

It has semi-horizontal dropouts so can be run as fixie/singlespeed if you wish.

Size is 56cms traditional (54cms c-to-c ST and 54cms c-to-c TT).

It will come complete with the following, all of which were brand new just a few rides ago, like the frameset itself:

- BLB seat post
- Stronglight A9 headset (aluminium body, cartridge bearings - very good quality)
- Quill stem adapter, with 1 inch to 1/18th shim included
- FSA hollow tech 2 style BB

Collection from near Guildford or Horsham preferred but can post at cost.

Nice looking frame but who is the builder? just to confirm it is Italian and handbuilt.

Cheers

Re:

I'm fairly sure its a 90s frame - genius tubing, dropout style, lugless and unicrown fork. And its certainly no colnago.

Re:

I fully agree pigman.
I wasn't having a go as I actually quite like it and its a shame its a bit too big otherwise I would be tempted.
Though just because its italian tubed and more thanlikely handmade, that doesn't make it an Italian handmade frame or classic for that matter. I just thought the original poster might have been able to say who or where he thought it was built.
Colnago decals would be gone with the wrapping it came in ;)
Its a nice rear end so more than likely Italian ;)

Re:

I was more concerned that someone might want this for l'eroica only for the scrutineers to reject it. After all, the post title and initial post make a big play on Erica suitability. It does look a nice frame.

Re:

I would have thought the internal routing and mid nineties age would have ruled it out straight away. Didnt even think of the L'eroica link.

**** to the original poster, apologies for the thread discussion, rude of us when your tryingto sell. Just trying to clarify/identify frames age and origins.

The wiggly snake seat stays and the unicrown fork put in the Cannondale 'copycat' era, probably '94-'99 and the decals are certainly 2003+... As for tubing it really could be anything, best thing to weigh the frame and try and compare to others online.

There's just about no way this would get past Eroica scrutiny.

The only Columbus tubing I can find with S bend stays is The Zona and Life OS mtb tube sets, and this is definitely neither of those. It might be Oria tubing, but I very much doubt whether its Italian build or Columbus....

Hi there - sorry, it's been a very busy week with no time for web surfing!

Anyway, to answer some of the questions, I bought it from BLB who told me it was likely 1983/1984 era. I have no idea if that is accurate or not, but if it is then it's eligible for Eroica, if it isn't, we'll then it's not. Tbh, I wouldn't mind it being 1990's something or other, as I'm only half tempted to sell it and I have a 1990s gruppo that would go very nicely on it - I can't make my mind up! Whatever the period, the frame looks lovely, seems well made and it rides beautifully.

Again, it was that BLB told me it was likely made from Columbus Genius, but as I've put in the ad, there aren't any tubing decals on it so who knows... I realise that's a detractor for some, but one things for sure - it's not Hi Ten!

As for whether its made in Italy or not - if you know anything about BLB, they make frequent trips in a Transit to Italy visiting frame builders and shops buying up old stock, used frames, etc and bring them back to London to sell. Of course, this frame could have been made somewhere else and taken to Italy, but chances are since they bought it NOS in Italy from some local shop or builder it was made in Italy.

I put the Colnago decals on it, bought from eBay. Don't hazard a guess the age of the frame from the design of the decals because they're not from it. I could have put any old decals on it frankly as I just thought it looked a bit naked without anything and as I have 2 genuine Colnago's I thought "why the heck not".
