1989 KONA LavaDome 19" complete RETRO bike clean & original paint with 'period' components. Good runner, perfectly usable MTB, nice and comfy, and a tribute to how good these early Konas were, I've been using it as a commuter bike lately and its a very good run-about and basic-trail riding machine. Nice to find an unmolestered one with orginal fork in original hand-splattered Kona-factory Paint, Joe Murray stickers in tact etc. See full spec. and photos below. This bike has been completely re-built in 2008 with everything cleaned, greased, serviced and setup-up again, new Clarks cable set and 7 speed chain.

I accept that the cables pick up a colour from the frame, but even so I think I'll have to go and take some Ibuprofen. Having said which, £150 seems a very reasonable price - such a handsome and original specimen could go higher than that on eBay IMHO.

Ha ha - thanks for that and for the compliment. I've a few bikes I'm finishing over Easter as I need to clear some space before a) taking on a few more, b) boxing things up ready to move later in the year. I'm trying to price them realistically, and yes, thanks I like these early bikes too. Mk.1 Kula coming soon, hope the Lava Dome goes to a good home / appreciative buyer, as it really is a case of "they don't make them like they used to".

19" Centre to top for those that have asked (17" CtoC which is typical on Kona 19" frams due to sloping top tube geometry). This is the official Kona 19" model as sold at the time, a nice old-timer and suprising good to ride for a 20 year old bike! (and one of the first propper production MTBs) - grab a practical piece of cycling history for your collection. It also proves a point that early Kona geometry was spot-on (for rigid forks), Joe Murray knew his stuff alright.

1989 Vintage Mk1. KONA Lava Dome 19"

Still available for anyone interested over the Easter w/e

Lovely piece of early MTB history and a practical and confortable daily ride

Best offer so far is £100 delivered for the F&F - so will hold out for that if the complete bike doesn't sell - must be worth the extra £50 for the complete bike - as £150 is a fair price for a 19 year old classic in such good condition - cheers though ;)
