KonaWorld: Info on Ti P2 forks

Re:

Bit more info I have from Joe Murray

The Ti P2 forks were made by Sandvik Sports Division in Kenniwick, Washington around 1989 or so. Sandvik produced titanium tubes and other aerospace products. (Not sure they make tubing anymore.) The sporting goods division that was partly set up for frame building with interest from Gary Fisher, yet Gary never got any ti frames in production. Kona was the first to use them. They also made tennis rackets and other stuff. I suppose like any small production bicycle manufacturing, it was not profitable enough, so they closed the division after a few years.

The steerer and dropouts were made my Paragon Machine Works. In particular the steerer was made from solid bar stock because no tubing was available with the right size and thickness even for the final machining. Really a work of art. I have one on my Hei Hei.

Re:

Top end Ti frames and forks were unprofitable at that time but the quality was amazing.
