Kona Titanium Hei Hei (Really...?)

The dropouts are wrong (neither the older plate-style nor the newer style with bullet end-caps). The top-tube cable routing should be on the top of the TT, not along the side. And a rear brake-stop/bridge welded to the seat stays? Nope.

It has the extended seat tube characteristic of a Kona, and looks to be nicely made. It reminds me of something, but I'm not sure what. Maybe one of the various brands (including Kona) that was built on contract by Sandvik / Ti-sports?

I'm glad it's not just me. Yeah, the rear triangle geometry seemed a bit weird. Long-ish stays, slack seat tube angle, zero bottom-bracket drop?

Somewhat typical of a bike that's had an over-long fork fitted. But it can't be that, because the head tube angle looks normal. So I presumed it was just the angle of the photograph or something.

Seller claims to have replaced all the original decals... I wonder what they were? Not Kona, at least.

I gave the guy a nudge, he's removing it and now understands that he was misled when he was sold the bike in the first place.

Fair Do's.. I just hope the seller didn't pay over the odds in the first place!

The KHS Ti frames are certainly nice but don't command the same £££ as a Hei Hei...

EDIT: It might be a Zaskar....plug socket definitely ain't though.

Re: thanks to Trebz

Hello,

I’m the guy who owns the not Kona above...

Siiigh.

Thanks to Trebz for pointing me over here. It certainly looks like the KHS to me.

So... I’ve a question for the collective wisdom of this post/the forum:

Given it’s not a Kona, and I don’t really want it anymore anyway (though now slightly less that it isn’t a Hei Hei)... any idea what it is worth?

Either full bike as pictured, or as frame only?

I’ve got all the era-appropriate XT/XTR bits that were on it originally. It’s all in good nick. Was well looked after by original owner. (Who purchased it badged as a kona with Sandvik paperwork to suggest the same)

What do you think? Anyone on here know of anyone with a mid - 90s Titanium itch that needs scratching?

I’m a bit bummed to be honest...

Thanks again to Trebz for keeping me honest.

Cheers

John
