Kona lava dome rear brake help

Hello!

A few years ago I purchased a beautiful lavadome frame from World Ranger. I've finally got around to building it. The only issue I have is with setting up the rear cantis. There's no cable guide on the seat stays for it as with the orange bikes I've built. There are cable guides at either end of hoe top tube and the seat stay brace has a drilled hole, but at the back. I realise I'm asking a pretty basic question, questions, but how do I pull the canti hanger away from the frame? Is there some kind of seat post adaptor?

Hopefully this rubbish photo helps Paint what I've described so poorly http://flic.kr/p/pJKGWF

Re:

Thanks for that :D

I did wonder but thought as I had cable guides at the both ends of the top tube, there might be some other magical way that Kona wanted these things routed.

Now then, the quest for a dog collar begins (not a phrase I saw myself using today)!

Sounds like a V-Brake intended model then?
Probably worth asking Wold Ranger. I don't know if you can get them to take an outer cable. grannygrinder sells them on ebay so might be worth asking them as well.

Echoing this, what year was the frame made? If it's post 96 then only the Lava Dome (for a short period of time), U'l, Fire Mountain, Hahanna and A-ha had canti's (although the Manomano had the rear canti hanger, it used V's). They have a cable stop and canti bridge. All other models were onto V brakes.

It's a 97/98. I've managed to find the original sale thread actually (the pics don't do it justice) http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewto ... mp;t=66617

I have some XTR V brakes - I could stick those on and change out the SS5's that I was planning on using for XTR too. I just thought that might be a bit too bling but what the heck :D

Thanks all for your help on this - it's very much appreciated.

That's a 99 unless I'm mistaken, so defo V's not canti's.

As per this reply, that is a V-brake model, and I'm pretty damn certain it is a '99 model too!

You should still be able to find (if you can) a dog collar to fit, but getting one in the correct size for the seat tube may be a bind, so youre best off going for V-brakes in this case!
