Kona Hot 1994/95? 18"

Re:

+1 to what Kirby said. "Sexy drop outs" varied from year to year and imho the sexiest where the Ritchey hooded versions

Re:

I'm a sucker for ti bullets and machined tube slot in jobbies :) Still a cool frame, shame about the rest of it and of course the price!

So, is this a 95? That's the one with a real mixture of tubing: Prestige, Concept and Ultimate. Are there any other frame indicators we should be looking out for?

Just if you can get a look at the brake lugs on the frame, HOT ones are a dead giveaway from the standard kona type

What decals there are are from 94, although not necessarily original of course (but correctly placed, so they might be).

There is no sign of fluting on the down tube, but both the Explosif and Hot versions of the Tange Ultimate frames were sometimes made with an Ultralight or Superlight down tube, instead of the much more common ribbed/fluted Ultrastrong tube.

Interesting. Is there a reason why the Hot doesn't appear in the European '94 catalogue? It's in the NA one and with rack mounts which I assume was due to it being an earlier model ('93?). Or could you even specify if you wanted rack mounts or not?

I think Second Level Sport didn't always list the custom frames, and Hots were never available as built-up bikes as far as I'm aware. The catalogue I have shows no seatstay eyes on the Hot, Hei Hei, Kula or AA, but if they are there on another copy I would guess that they photographed an Explosif with different paint if they didn't have a Hot frame available for the shoot.
