Kona? Frame number

Hi.
I have a old Kona MTB frame with Project 2 forks that I bought on EBay. I was told it is a Fire Mountain although it's been resprayed - badly. I'm looking to restore to former glory and have a lovely mid-90s XT groupset for the build. Question is - what year is it? I'm guessing 96, but not sure. Frame number is G0012072 - is this even a Kona?!

If it's a 96 then it should have 'Kona' cast into the dropout faces. The Kona catalogues in the archive have very detailed dimensions of frames so are easy to check.

Yep, pictures needed. A G to start with is new to me on mid 90's Kona frames.

Uploading photos. It definitely has a rusty KONA cast into the dropouts.

It's got the v-brake cable stops so I think that makes it 96 onwards.

Yeah - looking at catalogues I'm guessing it's 96, 97 or 98.

If it's a Fire Mountain, I wouldn't spend a lot on it, they're the same as the Hahana and bottom of the range stuff. A quick scrub and rattle can paint over should see it durable.

Well double top routed and no canti bridge means its not a 97 FM.
