Thanks for all the suggestions ... I'm more indecisive than ever now

Where did the 91 explosive sit in the range ?

You need to go learn about the bike you are building. Hit the Archive and Gallery and head for kona (or just google seach, Kona 1991 Catalogue)

Explosif is the top of the range steel frame (in the normal range)
That is a loverly blue colour (or deep purple ?) and would be a crime to remoe it.. Scrap the DX stuff and get XT or XC Pro on there. Tart the bars and stem up and there project done.

*Normal Range - There was the Hot a special build frame and the Hei Hei a Titanium frame above it.
The Explosif used the top Tange tubing of the time and was equpiied with the lowley DX, or top end XT/XC Pro groupsets, your choice.

The Cinder Cone as a run of he mill tubed frame (same deign though) and run the XC LTD groupset, about the same as DX level.

Re:

I know :D

and lucky for enc I didn't bid on this as I didn't think I would be able to pick it up.
But now I find myself sat down the road from it (assuming it's still in the city) with my son in the LGI for teh past week and for the next few.

Same as in most years - right near the top - usually the top non-custom hard-tail.

Ahh, sorted just looked at the 91 brochure... Looks like mine was purple but it's faded to blue. I'll try some meguires see if it'll cut back.

The 91 catalogue mentions joe Murray track 2 forks ... Was that an option as this has project twos !??
