Kona Cindercone '89/90 bb axle spec. question..

Retro Newbie
Afternoon,

I am restoring an 1989/90 Kona Cindercone. It looks like it has had the wrong bb axle length on it for some years - lots of wear on the frame on the chainstay on both sides (sadly). The one I have just removed is marked 120mm. Does anyone know what the right axle length replacement will be for this bike? 122mm or 127mm?

Thanks

I'm no expert, but I would have thought they were v.long axles already.
I think standard BB would be 68x110 or thereabouts. Well that what I had to my 94 Kila...which I have fitted with a 107.
Does it have a non-standard crank fitted?

You need the right axle length for the crankset you're using. It isn't so much the frame as the crankset that matters, i.e., the stays on an 89/90 Cinder Cone are no wider than any other bike AFAIAA, but if the cranks are very straight then you need a long bb axle. Obviously if you're keeping the cranks, you need a longer axle than 120. A 122 isn't going to make much difference, but a 127 might be enough. The cranks don't need to miss the stays by much, just provided they miss.

If you tell us what cranks they are, some cranks guru on here will probably be able to tell you what bb is required.
