Anyone know anything about jim?

copied from a discussion about Jim Docherty on Glasgow fixed gear forum

I was just wondering if he was still making frames, although i figure now that he isn't!
Would love to see more of his work though.

not as far as I know, it was a line he ended up in after a collaboration with Willie Bell at Springburn College. They did quite a bit together before Jim went on his own, including most of Obree's frames in the beginning. Jim got a bit pissed off with him doing frames and then Graham peeling the stickers off and putting his own on.
He started out in a workshop at the back end of Lochwinnoch and then moved to Paisley and he frames were painted by a guy in Edinburgh.
His 'real' trade was in metal casting and foundry work. I remember him working on the restoration of the Eros statue in Piccadilly which is made form aluminium. He had a spare arm and bow from that job in his house.
It's been a few years since I've seen him but I saw a post on the Johnstone Wheelers website a while back were someone had met him on the Arran ferry and he now lives over there. He is a really decent guy and a cracking engineer. It's a shame he's no longer building frames with the rise in popularity of steel frames.

Anyone who doesn't appreciate Jim Dochertys work doesn't know much about steel bike frames. Jim is a decent guy, who Obree never gave credit for creating his bikes and took all the credit himself. Its a shame he never got the recognition he rightfully deserved. He plans to get back into building specialist bikes again. Now currently lives in Rothesay and cycles with the Bute wheelers.
