I've got myself a bike, can someone help identify it!

Hello everyone,

Long time no post... I remember using this forum before when i built up my Peugeot Carbolite FG/SS a couple of summers ago. Anyway, that was sold to pay for my car...

Now however, i have gone and got myself another retro road bike. I purchased this for the fine sum of £30 off a local guy. He said he owned it from new, when he brought it in 1973... He also said it hasn't been used for around 20 years, and looking at the condition of it, i can see why!

I have spent hours searching online, browsing through Google Images, and various retro sites looking to see if there's a similar Falcon out there! I've had no luck, so i thought i'd try on here...

Now as you can see, the condition is pretty poor! I have stripped the bike down to just the frame, and i am booking it in for a sand blast and re-spray very shortly. All the components look original, its running a 5 speed Campagnolo groupset, which i will be restoring... No fixed gear this time!

I hope someone can help me out!

Thanks

Nice :)

It's a 70's Falcon so could be anything! I worked in a bike shop in the 70's selling Falcon bikes and lifting the cardboard wrapper when they arrived was like Forrest Gump and chocolates, you never knew what you you were going to get !

The frame numbers were a mystery as well...

Hahaha!

Tbh I haven't even found the frame number yet. I remember on my Peugeot it was on the seat stay, but there's nothing on this. Checked the BB shell and had a good look over it....

Thanks anyway for clearing that up, I was hoping for just a model, as I'm guessing this is a touring style bike, judging by the wider wheels, mug guards e.t.c

It looks a lot like a Falcon Black Diamond.
I built up a ladies version of this last year as single speed. Same paint, decals, etc... It had Black Diamond transfers on the chain stays.
Turned out to be a good and responsive ride, no special tubing tho.

Thanks for all the help guys!

Looking on the VCCL, the description matched the San Remo most, however the pictures of the womans black diamond look nearly identical to mine, so i'm guessing thats what it is!

Velobase Website only had a couple of models unfortunately....

After the re-spray, i will try find some decals similar to what its sporting at the moment, as well as a replacement head badge to finish it off

Again, thanks for the help, its certainly helped me. I cannot wait to take it on its first ride! Got some plans for the summer, including a nice 70 miler, which i have done before so it should be fun on this!

Re:

Just had a look at my Falcon catalogues . It is a Black Diamond Model number 64 as far as i can tell . If you would like a copy i will try to e mail you a copy .
