had a walk down to the local car boot today with mind of getting a bench grinder......

instead I found myself chatting to a chap about the bike he was selling, picked it up, checked for dents.... did my usual play it down what a piece of junk but it'll do for work and aww, the back rack had a bend in it, why is it covered in green slime........ he agreed it'd had a hard life and then stood for a long time outside, so I got him down a tenner....... just so you know, that was a quarter of the price off

new work bike for me, and a bent ear when I got home :?

oh, I forgot all about the bench grinder.

nice indeed, not without its faults tho

1/ rear shifter cable was split and frayed leading to.
2/ rear shifter was toast, cable had torn through the holder and cracked the casing.
3/ back wheel bearings sounded like a popcorn machine on overdrive.
4/ ...saddle were shite.

so, new cable casing and cable for the rear, had to use an old 6 speed thumbie on friction for now and I had a rear deore on x137 wheel (£4 from same car boot a few weeks ago) which will do for now , then I popped my union jack rolls saddle on and went out for a quick ride to see how it handled..... I like it, very compfy riding position and quite responsive, thorn rack on the back took my panniers easily I think I will over time get it refinished and used for a bit of touring but for now its a good work bike until I can afford a refurb.....

tis a real bummer that i'd literally just ordered a 2016 ridgeback tour tho! coulda saved some pennies there had I known this was gonna pop up.... and bought a new bench grinder.
