All of my retros are karma frames and built up with whatever I can find cheap/karma. I rarely ride them due to my health but it's just nice to have them there as a reminder of where I started. Yes I have fancy modern bikes with suspension, hydraulic brakes and clutch mechs but nothing will take away the fun I had on my £5 giant stone breaker when that was all I could afford and could barely ride.
Cheap old retros are what got me back into cycling. At one point I had 13 bikes (pretty much all Raleigh's and marins) with a combined value less than half of what my new bike owes me. So you're in the right place don't worry.
The cost of the bike is unimportant. The value of the fun it provides is all that matters.
