This is the damage done to my Al Carter whilst removing a stuck seat post. Do you think it would be repairable or safe to ride with a long seat post?
Yes it wasWas it an alloy seat post stuck in a steel frame?
How did you get it out?Yes it was
I filed it til it was about 2mm thickness then a mate took over and drilled it outHow did you get it out?
That's the tube. The paintwork is a bit hammered but the lump is all tubeIn the 2nd picture what is the state of the tube? Is that just the paint or has the steel tube been stressed there?
I tend to think it's definitely ruined but I've had it a long time and hate the idea of a new bikeI think you could dress the tube and clamp at the rear with a mandrel IE (gash seat post) inserted, then file the slot and stress relief cutout to tidy it up and stop the crack spreading. However the bulge in the front of the tube is suspect. Sadly mangled.
How did you get it out?
